Need some advice/opinions on heads
Hey Guys,
I'm lookin or some advice or diretion on heads. I need to know how much is too much and how I can get the best power under the curve for my current set up. My Mods are in my sig, but I'll give a quick run down:
I have a NNBS intake manifold and 87mm TB
EPS 222/226 on a 114 +4 with about .600 lift on both sides
1 7/8" catless ARH
Currently running a 3" cat back, but I may be switching to a single 3.5" with a cut out.
I currently shift at 6300 RPM and I just want to make as much power under the curve as possible. I have seen some decent deals on patriot stage 3 243's with a 68cc chamber size which would be pretty sweet for my LQ9. The problem there is the intake runner is jacked up to about 230cc which I think may deliver more power at the cost of low end torque. I know in the big scheme of things thats fairly small, but as I said I just want as much power everywhere as I can get on a decent budget, and I'm not revving this thign to the moon like some of you. Would a head like that sacrifice low end power?
For reference the AFR 205's are out of my price range... if I'm thinking about dropping over 2k on heads I'm just jumping right to a used TVS.
Where would untouched 243's get me?

The untouched 243's would bump compression up alittle giving you alittle more low end.. but with that cam i would deff do alittle porting to help your flow.. idk which heads would be better but i think the 243's would help with lowend and then porting them would wake it up under revs

i just built a LQ4 and im running advanced inductions 243 heads fully cnc ported milled to 60cc with a 226/230 600/600 111lsa cam im right at 10.8.1 with this setup. and since you have a LQ9 with stock 64cc 243s you'll be at 11.1 which is about as high as you can go with 93 pump gas

Yea I know the compression would be high, but I figure its safe since thats what the LS2 runs. Ideally I would keep the chambers close to what they are now. The stage 3 Patriots have a 68cc chamber which could work well.

Looks like I could be into a set of AI 243/799 for as cheap at 1300. I may go that route. I saw an LQ9 dyno that showed a 50 HPand 35 lb-ft increase over some untouched 243's. The cam was a hair bigger (224/228 on a 113) so it had a few more revs under its belt, but still damn impressive! I read that and think they're worth 60 HP over the 317's all day long. Anyone see any problem with that logic? If thats not worth 1300 then I dont know what is...
I'm gunnin for 12's NA and I want em BAD!!!
