Default New Aftermarket Cam condition

For those of you who have bought aftermarket cams...

When you open up the box, have they been fairly clean?
Or do you need to scrub them down, spray them out, and clean the crud out of the holes?

I just got my replacement cam today...and it looks new from the lobes...but the back end is all goobered up with a booger of multiple globs of paint and dirt, and the holes have what looks to be machining grit or carbon buildup.

I'm going to clean it up, but.... is this how camshafts are coming these days?

Default Clean as a whistle

I bought a Crane. It was clean and shiny with a very light coat of oil and packaged up real nice. When I put it beside the stocker I couldn't tell them apart. Come to think of it, I hope I put the right one in.

Post pics, I had to send a cam back because it had a scratch in one of the cam journals that I could feel with my fingernail.

I have ordered a custom grind Comp, a custom grind Lunati, and they were both clean. I have also ordered numerous other non custom grinds with more of a film on them. If there is a filmy coating or something like that I wouldn't worry. If there was a scratch in the lobe, I would not use it. Was yours a custom grind? I could see a non custom grind sitting on a shelf somewhere for a while, maybe they coat them with something.

I must have ended up with your junk...

My 1st Brand New Comp Cam had a scratch in the number 1 cam journal. Rather than waist my time with those retards Since there was no damage to the package or even the plastic bag it was wraped in, I had it polished out locally for less then what it cost to ship it back.

The 2nd Comp Cam looked better untill I touched... wanted to make sure it wasn't like the first one I got. Opps! Now it needs a light polish...

After some of the horror stories I have read I think They should change there Motto to "Twice the price and half the quality" with no garranty.

All though they are the leader in advertising in the Cam industry The customer service I recieved and the quailty of the product's I recieved I won't go back

My newest cam from a local Cam grinder not only cam oiled up in a bag but had a protective plastic sleeve that looks like one of those chines finger trap thingys. Way better protection. All in all much happeier Esspecialy with the price!!!

I will Get mine locally from now on.

As far as cams in general, Even when they come Brand New and shinney, I clean them. I always find lose dirt or grit some were that you can not Physically see. But it always shows up on a Lint free cleaning rag...
