Default NOISY valvetrain after highway trip??

Was on the highway for an hour and a half yesterday crusin 70-75, traffic got stopped on the 2 lane cause of construction. So while i was waiting i put it in neutral and noticed the valvetrain was extremely noisy. Oil pressure normally only gets down to 50 in town at a light and is around 55-60 while driving, but when i stopped on the highway it was floating around 40-45. Running mobil 1 synthetic 10w30 6qts. When i got back up to speed you couldnt hear it. And then driving back that night it wasnt as noisy. The motor was set up for a factory oil cooler but i put the block off plate from my 5.3 on it. SO my question is does it sound like i need an oil cooler? Sorry for the long post

An oil cooler is never a bad thing but if you were still holding 40psi I doubt oil temp is your problem.

Were you sitting next to a divider on the highway in traffic? That will increase the noises that you hear tremendously...I experience this on a daily basis on my ride home from work on Rt4 west The engine/drivetrain noises will bounce off of median/divider between the two sides of the highway and you'll hear **** that you've never heard before.

Your oil pressure numbers look good and consistent with what I've noticed on these trucks through the years...you could do a few checks for poops and giggles, maybe take a sniff of the oil and make sure that it isn't getting diluted with fuel indicating a rich condition.

^^^^^ good observation Wally.. This is def true.. Have you since listened to the truck out side of it at idle?? Thats the first thing I would do.. No real red flags as of yet.. Like said check the oil, if it checks out, I wouldn't sweat it. Initially I was thinking broken valve spring, but seems as if it is not..

I have a lifter that acts up sometimes. And it gets loud. But yours might just be something simple. Try changing you oil and see what happens.

There were not any dividers since its just a two lane highway and they were re-paving one side so i was sitting there in the open. lol i try and turn the radio up when i drive by dividers or else i go paranoid crazy. Driving around town its noisy but not that noisy. I've come to terms that ls engines with a larger cam are noisy but this was ridiculous. I have not sniffed the oil but it is clean, i just changed it this past saturday from 5w30 mobil 1 to the 10w30. Im pretty sure its not a broke spring cause its not very noisy all the time(running prc .650 duals) It seems to only happen when on the highway for over 30-45 minutes. Ive listened to it since Wednesday and it sounds like it usually does, a little chatter but not too bad.

Its been awhile but I think my dual springs are the same way after a long trip. Nothing crazy sounding just a little louder than normal.

stock hyd lifters and very stiff springs is probably the cause. lifters weren't designed for that much pressure. mine does it too w/patriot duals, been driving it for 3 yrs like that.

so is it just the pressure of the springs and since the oil is gonna be warmer on a trip the lifters make more noise? Ill try and get a video on wednesday after ive been on the highway
