It's a good spec for what you said you wanted. If you aren't happy with the cam specs, tell him you would like the intake side bumped up a tad, but then the lift is going to be higher and other things might change as well.

That's a big split which I think should be beneficial for your build. If you ever throw a small spray kit on it will scream. Overall it is a little mild to keep bottom end strong in the small motor, but it will sound freaking awesome too.

I would honestly rather it perform better than it sounds, I just don't want a stock or close to stock idle, but I wouldn't mind a hard lope. It just seemed odd for him to recommend such a wide split.

He specd a 218/230 for my tvs1900 408 and it had midrange for days. Was an awesome dd cam.

212/224 not odd at all
vinci hiperformance has 212/222 and 214/222 cams

As said above, 10* split isnt too odd. Look at the split on some of the cams for L92 top ends...

i have a comp 689-421-13 dod/vvt camshaft with 214-226 duration 500 lift for the dod lifters.but i have yella terra 1.8 ultralite shaftmount rockers that will put me over 530 lift and still run dod.

In the early LS days, a 4-6* split was the standard with headers/exhaust, a little more with stock manifolds/exhaust. I have seen several specs lately for cathedral port heads that have a 10+ degree split in them even with a good flowing exhaust.
