I agree with looking into this, running the engine with no oil pressure does basically the same thing as floating the valves, the lifters aren't pumped causing them to bounce off the cam instead of follow its profile, obviously not under as severe load as high rpm valve float, but not good either way. Just make sure you look into it, it would be a bummer to put it back together and have the same issue. Also, those cam choices are vastly different, lol. What are you looking for out of your setup? What stall converter? gears? turbo? etc.. I am a fan of the smallish cams such as what I'm running (218/218-112, .57X lift), makes for a fun and responsive street combo.

Also, this is just my opinion, but I am very picky about cleanliness when I tear apart an engine, I would do your very best to get as much of that metallic sludge out of everything as possible. I wish you could prime the oil pumps on these engines like you could with the distributor drive on sb/bb chevy's to flush it out.

what can i look for, as far as low oil pressure problem? i know the lifter being how it was, was causing the low oil pressure after it went out. but what would cause low oil pressure before the lifter was smahed?
as far as cleaning everything up, ill be spending several hours and alot of parts cleaner get everything clean. it has been bothering me that the oil came out the way it did, cuz that means everything has **** in or on it.

the truck isnt my dd anymore. i love choppy idles, and the way Slowlsx's truck sounds nasty as hell, and ifmine sounded like that it would be sick. But id like to really just get the best power and performance from it. i have 4.10's and a 3400 stall. with my 218/224 .600/.605 111lsa cam it woud spool fast, and pull hard. my trucks sweet spot was from a 50 roll, anything under it would spin.
so i want to get the best performaning cam period.

In that case, you could go a little bigger with it. I would do the Isky 218 218 112 over the triple 12, or bigger if your turbo will support the rpm without choking. Just remember, with turbo's, just because the cam can make N/A power to 7k doesn't mean it won't fall off hard well before that with a smallish turbo. Ex. my 365 falls off hard about 5600 due to my small tc76 turbine side, while Spoolin is running a slightly smaller cam (isky 215-114 vs my isky 218-112) and makes power well over 6300 I think, but he has a better flowing turbine side on his gt42.

thanks for the info. Jake (smokeshow) has been explaining turbos and cam working together. i know im limited to what the s465 will put out. but eventually ill have to get a s475 haha.
jake always make fun of me cuz i want my truck to lope like crazy weither it helps or not haha. so id like to get a bigger cam.
im leaning toward the 228/222 115+2 cuz i might get it cheaper then $400

Pm stock48, he usually has a couple good turbo cams laying around. Usually a good price on them too!

If it was me I'd replace the oil pump. They aren't too expensive. I had two oil pumps fail within about 6 months of each other on my old 408 setup, I think the bypass valve stuck open on them. Better to replace now than to have to tear everything down again IMO. Also, if you're ever in a situation where you start your truck and have no oil pressure, get a tow home....it will be cheaper than replacing torn up engine parts.

Looks like a pretty good combo of parts you have there, very similar to what I'm using except I am using a 218/218/112. That triple 12 seems to be working very well for someone else on here, don't remember his name..
