Question PCM problems

I have just bought a nother PCM that was already tuned from a site member, and I installed it and tryed to start the truck and it turned and then died. tryed several times and same thing, will carnk over and like its going to run then it dies.
Re-installed my old PCM and the truck is back to normal...
Anyone have any ideas of what it might be?
Or should I just send it to Wheatley and have hime work his magic?
I think that it has a Texas something tune I can not rember what it is.

Might need a security relearn or a crank relearn

Search around here for "security relearn" and you should be able to find the procedure, can't remember exactly off hand. It takes a while (like 45 min) IIRC.

*EDIT* might want to check the GM Tuning and Diagnostics section while searching...

Usually when the PCM is replaced it needs the security relearn before it will start, otherwise it will just fire and stall. You're probably going to need a crank relearn also, but it should run. You need either a TechII or tuning software to do the crank relearn. The dealership can do that but it may cost you about 1/2 hr labor (even though it only takes a minute or two)

I don't know what year you started to need the security relearn but my '00 didn't need to do it when I received my pcm. I got the crank relearn done though at a shop.

You need the security relearn. What you described is exactly what happens when you put a different or new PCM in your truck.

It takes about 30 minutes, and don't open your door during it or it will mess it up. Try and start the truck, it should start and then die. Leave the key in that position for roughly 10 minutes or until the flashing security light goes out. Then turn the key completely to the off position for 30 seconds. Repeat this whole process for 2 more times. When you try and start the truck for the 4th time it should run.

Doesnt the VIN need to be changed in the PCM for it to work?
Was the PCM tuned for your truck?
