Why not just check for the iron heads? Or is it a short block? I'm sure you already checked, just I know I overlook the obvious sometimes.

Iron heads or a motor from 2000 will have the longer crank...

Did the 2000s have 317 heads but a longer crank? Something I didn't know.

Yea that's what I thought too. You made it seem like the 2000s could have has 317 heads and a longer crank. My bad.

I can take a pic of my crankshaft if you'd like...its from a 99 6.0 but I dont have anything to set it next to for reference(correct length crankshaft)...if you want me to set a tape measure next to it or something let me know...

and my 99 6.0 did have iron heads too...

If the engine is still together its really obvious. The rear flange will extend from the rear seal about an inch. A short crank is almost flush with the seal.

There used to be some pics floating around here, can't remember who posted them though, might have been Parish. But yea, it's really easy to tell, the 99-00 crank flange will stick out like 1/2"-1"ish, while the newer crank will be almost flush with the rear main seal...maybe stick out like 1/4" or something like that.
