Default Is polishing my heads worth anything?

When I do the cam swap and my heads are off for the spring swap, should I go ahead and do a light polish on the heads?

The cam is a vinci ultra tq cam, motor is built for towing so porting them will hurt my low end tq slightly, but what about a light smoothing polish?

5.3L ext cab 2wd 3.42 all external bolt ons done

if you're bored you can do the combustion chamber. it helps to prevent carbon build up. no need on the intake or exhaust runners.

You can remove the springs with the heads still on the truck. What cam are you going to run? Lower gears would be better. 3.73s min. 4.10 would be better for towing.

x2, no need to pull heads. get wooden dowel rods or an air compressor fitting
Also, gears have been my best mod yet

Truck has 150,000 miles so I am replacing the lifters and trays. I don't know how to do it with out taking the heads off

210/218 .551/.551 on 116lsa
I already have 1.8 yella terra rockers installed. so lift with the cam should be around .583/.583 lift

I 100% agree on the 3.73 and 4.10 for towing, but not fuel millage when not towing. I get around 23mpg at 75mph with the 3.42 get about 16-17 pulling 4500lbs boat

DO NOT polish your intake runners, there needs to be someting in there to create turbulance to help the fuel stay suspended and atomized before the chamber. If you do polish it then your mpg's and throttle responce will go way down. You can remove the casting flash and that will help. Its quick and simple to do. Just dont get too carried away with it.

You didnt mention changing lifters and trays in the first post. There isnt a way to do that with the heads still on the block.....

WHPLSH do you have a pic of what this looks like.

I was imagining there would be a few casting ball/bead chunks. Like a sloppy welding job if that makes any sense. ha

Iv never seen a smooth polished intake port. Iv messed with all types of heads and the best porters in the industry ( not particularly talking about gm ls heads) leave the intake with a rough grit sandpaper finish or the cnc " rippled" effect. Its kinda like the golf ball affect. You don't want air to stick to the head so to speak. Itll flow over it nice and quickly... But the combustion chambers and exhaust ports I have seen have been polished very slick.

If he does a ROUGH port Blend on the intake runners. He will increase the atomizshion! Polish the Exhaust ports to move the exhaust out faster..
