Default port and polish 8.1L heads

So i have all my parts now for the whipple install. new cam, new spings & retainers, 255 fpump, 60lb injectors, long tube headers, cold air box, 2 bar map senser, push rods, and a boot a pump.... Only thing else i could think i might do while its down is port and polish the heads. Only problems ive run into is no one knows anything about the heads... Some say dont do it cause it iwll not help, other says it will help a lot...

So any of you got any info on the stock heads... also im not going aftermarket... the ryler stuff its way to expensive in my book for heads, ( over $3K)

You need to talk to Ray. He is the biggest market for 8.1- vortec marine engines and packages.. i am sure he would give you some good info.. Infact I just sold him a few 8.1 manifolds...

ill give him a e mail and see what he says.... this has been a slow project with the new house and what not.... i talked to him a year ago when i decided to make it go faster... i mean a 120K mile 8.1L sububran is not really a hot ticket lol....

anyway when i was bouncing ideas off him he said they dont recomend there head and cam with a blower, he said do one or the other... didnt really give a reason why.

The cam i have is that comp XR 270,

If he can clean them up or things there is any benifint in the stock heads i might just get some off e bay or something... ive seen them on there for $200 bucks...

the local performace shop said they make heads for the 8.1 but then said you just have to run different head gaskets to block off the other water passages... he said there new heads have both water passages... I dont know much about heads but that just doesnt sound right.

I know older big block motors have water runnin in the intake, and the 8.1L have a dry intake, that may be what he's talkin about

that is correct and some have even said that they have ran the 502 aluminum heads that GM offer on there big block but idk how they made them work or whatever haven't seen how the 8.1 block looks so i really couldn't tell you if thats even possible but maybe you should ask around though???
