Possible pcv issue?
Hey guys I'm new and I think I may have a problem.
Ok guys, I swapped in an 02 5.3 not too long ago that is built pretty healthy. It has stock 709 heads that are hand ported and polished, milled( makes 10:5:1), bowl blended, 3 angle valve job, comp 212/218 cam, comp springs, comp lifters, comp pushrods, clevite rod/main/cam bearings, a melling high volumer adj. oil pump, speed pro rings, and full bolt ons. Ive read that the stock pcv systems suck on these engines and a lot of people are seeing oil consumption. Because of this I've read they run a catch can to keep oil and all of the by products of combustion from entering the intake. I'm seeing a bit of oil consumption, not a lot but more than what I consider normal. Maybe a half a quart or a little better per thosuand miles. Which is what some people Ive read of were consuming. What worries me is that every so ofter at higher rpm it will blow some blueish smoke out. It doesnt happen everytime at high rpm just every once in a while.
The motor runs great, it makes plenty of power and hasnt lost any since the first day it was ran. Which lead me to believe that the pcv was possible shooting a little too much oil into the intake. So I pullled the throttle body off and stuck my hand inside the intake to feel for oil. Sure enough the inside of the intake was very oily. Not just a little bit of oily type residue, it was straight oil inside, and it was more than I've seen on any of my buddies motors that weve swapped intakes on or whatever. I have not done a compression,or leakdown test yet, but due to how oily the intake was it leads me to believe that its not the rings or valve seals thats causing it. If i did have a bad ring(s) wouldnt it smoke all the time like this? Like I said its just every once in a while which makes my think that maybe oil is getting reburned through the intake a lot more than on a stock motor. Its done this ever since the motor has been put in, and people keep telling me its because its breaking in, but I dont really know.
The motor only has maybe 1500 miles on it since it was built. Is this a normal thing for a motor breaking in? Or could it be the pcv? Or possibly something worse? I'm hoping for the the first two but maybe somebody can shed some light on the situation. Thanks guys.

ever since I did my head/cam and 90mm tb swap I have had a similar problem. No leaks and under boost seeing some black smoke, does not smoke any other time. Do I nee a cathc can also?
