Questions about swapping heads=5.3
Alcon,
Opinions please:
I have been reading about 243/799 heads swaps and gain HP... sounds good if they are milled .030 or more to bring compression back up. okay sounds good.( since I have to change out heads anyway) Want to know all my options.
Questions: what other FACTORY head can I swap on my truck to pick up some more HP. Maybe with a little porting and milling also. I just don't have 1k to spend on heads. truck is in sig...thinking about changing the cam to a little bit larger= tsp 220 or 216/220 either on a 112 lsa to 114.
Also think it can be done in a weekend? goona do it on my R&R and don't want to spend all my time on the truck.... Family would be pissed....
No stall and no plans of installing one. Truck is daily driver....

i think your only other option is to p&p stock 5.3 heads (either 706 or 862) and the cams you mentioned are going to want a stall. Look no bigger than around a 212/218 IMO

I found some 243 s on ls1 tech for u
F/S LS6 243s - LS1TECH
CNC ported 243 heads - LS1TECH
And this is a great dyno thread as to the results of 243 s with a TBSS intake
before and after TBSS INTAKE dyno finally

I've got a 216/220 low lift, 4WD reg cab. It does fine with the stock stall.
243's are your best bet, and would probably wake up your cam a bit as well.
FWIW, my heads were milled .030, and I used a .040 head gasket to bring my compression to 9.9:1 instead of the 9.5:1 stock compression.

I ran the numbers once and I came up with 59.8 cc chambers with a .030 mill on a ls6 head, so thats just a hair smaller then a stock 706 would be. i would vote a .030 or .040 mill on a 243/799 head and polish the runner up and put them on, I just dont think a cnc'd head will help much at all on a 5.3 unless you had a 230s plus cam and were reving real high.

True just trying to find out all the information I can before I start the project..
Would like to find someone local to do the swap, but I cannot afford shop rate prices....

I dont have all the data on hand but the 241s have bigger chambers yet, I know an ls1 will go from 10.1-1 to 10.5-1 just by switching to stock ls6 heads and the cfm is only like 10 more then the 5.3 heads I know they are vary close on flow so it would pretty much just drop you cr way down so theres really nothing you can do to the 241s to make them work good. The milled ls6 or just getting the stock 5.3 heads ported is about all you can without spend alot of money.
Back in the day I took my stock heads and polished out the runner and then milled them .030, there was a noticeable gain in power and picked up 2-3 mph on the track.
