Honestly stock is probably fine. Unless you get a freak motor and twin 76mm turbos and put out 1200hp lol...then things might get a little hot. Only thing to keep in mind is the more power you make, the more heat the cylinder will see. But for like 6-700hp, stock is likely no issue. Lower temp t-stat would help make up for lack of a ring gap if you are pushing it power wise.

I don't feel like swapping my thermostat 2 times per year though. And 160* thermostats suck ***** up here in the winter.
So, I have this urge to push things, like up the boost to 13-14 psi. And I have this nitrous kit that's just sitting there, staring at me every day... You still say stock ring gap? That's not sarcasm, that's a serious question.
Since we're on the subject, what are the drawbacks of a slightly wider ring gap?

Also, this engine is completely torn down at this time. When I reassemble it next week, I don't want to know that it's "probably fine." I want to KNOW that it's fine, and will be able to survive all the stupid abuse that I'm going to put it through.

you had a freak detenation like someone said here.toss in a new slug and ring set, check gap but dont mess with it if its like the others.Keep in mind ,folks have put many a radix on brand new engines and never had an issue if they left them stock with good gas.So new tight engines handle boost, so should your high mile engine just but it back to what it was and run the hell out of her.
