The one change we made to the short-block was increasing the gap of the top rings from 0.015 to 0.028 inch. Piston failures can usually be traced to the rings butting, sticking on the bore, and snapping the ring land. Extra ring gap cures this issue. If you look closely you can see the sizable rust stain midway down the No.8 cylinder.
