I thought that these engines were internally balanced and the crank pulley was nothing more than a pulley

These motors are internally balanced and the crank pulley is just that, a pulley. I have a friend with a LS motor Camaro and when he did away with his air conditioning he had the back half of his crank pulley machined off where the A/C belt rode saving a whopping eight pounds off the front of the motor. He has been running it like this for 2 years with no problems!!

the pulley functions as a harmonic damper, which has nothing to do with static balancing. Its not "just a pulley".

Why did you run those? Just because or for better hp snd relisblity? What did you get the ASP pulley for. a Camaro? How much is it under driven?

It's not just a pulley, it has a rubberized ring around the outside seperating it from the inside. It does dampen and absorb crankshaft harmonics. No engine has zero crankshaft harmonics

Ohhh, I wasn't aware of that, I thought it was all done internally. So the aftermarket pullies, do they have the rubber inside them, doesn't look like it? One would think that an aftermarket pulley would create increased crankshaft harmonics...I don't like the sound of that.

From reading the info in that link, it seems that there has been some debate among the performance crowd as to the necessity of the balancer...me, I'm a little more conservative. I decided a long time ago to stick with my factory parts as I didn't see the minimal gain worth the 1) money 2) possible cooling problems from the water pump running slower 3) possible electical problems from the alt turning slower, even with an alt OD pulley, and now 4) loss of harmonic dampening. Lately I've been seeing guys doing UD pulleys and being happy with them, reporting quicker throttle response and such, and I started thinking this may be something I'll do some day. The Powerbond pulley looks real nice and started to sway me a little bit. In lieu of this new info (which I should have known, but it goes to show that you don't know everything and learn something new every day, thanks guys ), I think I'm going to stay with my gut instinct and stick with my factory pullies. I haven't had any problems with them and my truck charges good, doesn't overheat, etc. Still saving my cash for my blown trans anyway lol...
