There's no such thing as too big of a cam, just too low of a stall!
I wouldn't say the cam is too big for the engine, but I would say it's on the verge of being too big for a heavy truck, especially one you dd. If it was track only, the cam would probably work with an even higher stall, but for the street it's up to you how much "driveability" you're after.
How does the current engine/stall combination suit your daily driving? If you say "sluggish till 4000 rpm, and only manage 7-10 mpg" then I think you can see the writing on the wall...
I think your combo really favors track use, which will always be at odds with driveability and fuel economy, but it's all up to how much of one you want to sacrifice for the other

I have a cam very similar I was gonna put in and got advised against it. It's a Comp 238/242 .605/.610 114lsa. My motor guy told me it would suck on the bottom end and I could make way more power with a smaller cam, so that's what I plan on doing. Plus I don't want the 7mpg.
I have a set of 243s I am gonna put on my lq9, but stock, those motors came with 317 castings

I got the same stall speed too. I didn't care at first because I figured most of the time I'd be doin 70 on the highway, but stop n go would kinda suck with a 6k lb truck when I think about. I'm used to having power on the low end courtesy of the radix I used to have.

Whats the minimum gear you guys would run with a cam in this size range? 3.73 seems kinda high for a cam like that? What about with a 150 shot, would the taller gear be a benefit if you know your making the hp numbers, or would you want it spinning more RPM in third on the big end.

Sup guys I'm rockin' an LQ4 with catless Corsa Sport exhaust, AEM intake, Nelson tuned. I'm not very up to speed on cams. Why are they so difficult to install? How are you guys able to swap cams so often?
