Default Should I get my torque converter loosened up a bit?

The trans is out of my truck and I'm thinking about haveing my torque converter loosened up a bit. Right now I have a yank ss3600 that u can power brake at 3300 rpm. My shift extentions are 1050 rpm from 1st to second gear. And I'm not quite sure where it flashes at... It seems really slugiah for that split second off of the line though.

My plans are to add a fast 102 intake and a 227-231 111 cam. Right now I make peak torque at 5100 rpm but only spin it to 6450 rpm. What do u guys think? Maybe 250 more rpm should do it?

Your problem are those tires with 3.73s. Those gears are killing you trust me. I'd go up to 4.10s at least or ditch the mud tires. Your 11.6:1 6.0 should be a beast off the line. If you punch it from a dead stop does it light up the tires?

It will lite em up anywhere in first gear in 2wd. But I have to launch in 4x4 then switch to 2wd in mid run. I am rebuilding the trans so I figured it would be easier to do the tc then the gears for now... Do u think I'd see any gain out of a looser verter

Do the gears. They'll make a much much bigger difference. On a performance truck with 35s I wouldn't do anything less than 4.88s.

EDIT-Oops misread his sig. I would still consider 4.56-4.88s with 33s.

i went from 3.42 to 4.10s. It doesn't feel much different for daily driving, but it makes a really nice difference at wot.

I don't think the 250 rpm looser converter will make much difference. Re-gear to 4.56 front and rear with your 33 inch tires, and you will jump off the starting line.

Everyone needs to remember that if he regears, he has to swap front and rear = $$$$.

If I were you, I'd get 28" tires all around for the track

Nah I remembered that thought, I think he's just trying to mask one of his biggest weaknesses, his under-gearing. Sure it won't be cheap, but he has a fairly wild build. Gears IMO should be done even on a stock vehicle.

If all he is after is track times, changing tires would be much easier and more cost effective. I don't think he is complaining about how it runs on the street, but I could be wrong.
