stock 243's vs prc stage 2.5 5.3L heads
Hey guys, been a while since i've been on here or have done anything to my truck (I've actually taken parts out and sold parts off my pretty stack in my room) due to being a broke college student with no job. But I'm making my comeback in the truck scene.
Well onto the question. My truck (08 5.3 CC mods in sig) came with 243's and I know these are really good heads, but would it be worth it to replace them with the PRC 2.5 5.3 heads? Near future mods will be 224/228 115lsa cam, DOD delete, 3600 circle d tc, and a turbo set up coming in Feb. or Mar. of this coming year.
The reason I'm thinking about going this route is because instead of sending my heads to get p&p I was hoping on buying the cam and head package offered by TSP Precision Race Components Stg. 2.5 5.3L Heads & Cam Package

Only reason i see an issue using the heads is if they are milled down to bump up compression ratio.. With a turbo you need to retain stock or slightly lower than stock CR. If you really wanted to use the heads i guess you could run a thicker head gasket to lower down the CR.

With the Stage 2.5 5.3's we can do just a clean-up mill and keep you right at your stock compression ratio, which is still rather boost friendly! Or, for a little more money you could go Stage 2.5 LS6 heads and drop the compression a bit.
What blower/turbo setup will you be running?

I'm not sure what turbo set up I'll be running yet, I plan on going to flaco or cms here in Houston in about a month to figure out all the details and most important the price. I wanted to go with the stage 2.5 ls6 heads so that I could keep 243's but I wast sure if they would fit.

I'm running PRC stg 2.5 5.3 heads, and I'm turbod. I have dish pistons and my CR is still stock. So that doesn't effect me. Your truck has flat top pistons so you might see a bump in CR. If your going to do a head cam package, then go with the ls6 heads. Just don't get them milled and your CR will stay the same.

Yea I have an idea of what it will cost, my starting budget will be $10,000 I know that for sure so that should be enough for a good start. And I was a broke college kid now I'm a college kid with an awesome paying internship lol

$10k is a nice budget. Do some research and see what kind of numbers people are putting down on a dyno, and what they are running in the 1/4 with stock heads on a boosted engine.
If I were you, I'd get the complete turbo kit, my boost cam w/ kit, and a 4l80e. Worry about heads later.

Yea I'm doing alot of research so I can get a good set up. The goal for now is to run mid to low 12's with the cam and boost.I plan on doing a 4l80e later on, my 60e was rebuilt a few months ago so I'm thinking about just pushing that one until it dies
