stroke current block or buy a 416 assembled shortblock?
I've gotten 2 different quotes for building a 416 stroker that range from $7500-$8000 using strong equipment but, I found a 416 assembled shortblock from Mast for $5300. After all is said and done i.e. new cam, injecters, pushrods, etc which option would end up cheaper?

If you have it built, at least you know whats all in your engine, forged, not forged etc... See if you can get a spec sheet on both and post it up here. People can chime in better when they know whats in each. The members here will know better than I do once the spec sheet is available. They can point out the weak points in each and give you an advantage of just paying a little more for the build if its built.

$5300 for a shortblock seems really, really expensive!!!!!
You should be able to get a complete shortblock shipped to you ready for whatever you want to throw at it for $3599. That is without a cam, but cams don't cost $1700!!!!

The 416 shortblock is more than likely L92/LS3 based which are aluminum blocks. You'll pay more for these where as most 408 deals you find are cast iron blocks, much cheaper.
For comparison sake, a new LQ9 bare cast iron block goes for approx. $750 & a new L92 bare aluminum block goes for a little over $1400. Prices from SDPC, sponsor to the right.->
Edit: just found this. SDPC sells a L92 416 shortblock for $4689.
