Strong cam for stock 5.3??
This is not good...This is why I sold my WS6...
I have a 4WD 5.3L. Looking for ideas on a good strong low end cam for a stock motor. Keeping the stock converter, just upgrading the cam and springs. I don't even want to tune it if I don't have to. But I will...
Looking for a torqy(sp) cam. Truck never sees more than 4500rpms, and goes offroad about twice a month.
Looking for good throttle responce and a noticable, not radical idle.
Got any ideas?
Part 2...
Keeping in mind the torqy theme, will LTs help or hinder? Would mids be better?
Thanks.

I have a Vinci 210/218 .551 .551 on a 112lsa for sale. Its the vinci 062 cam. Might be what you're looking for.
Heres a link to mine as well as the others.

With a 5.3l engine I'd recommend a Comp Cams 208º/208º .557"/.557" with a 112º lsa. As soon as you break the 210º number the stock converter will make the low end sluggish till over 2k rpms. The 208º will swap with no tuning although tuning will make the truck run better and that also goes for a stock cam.
Good luck,
Richard

First of all, Rich knows his stuff.
I have talked to him on the phone and he is very helpful.
His recommendation sounds very realistic.
I an running a comp 206 212 on a 112+2 and have been very happy with it.
To give you an idea of how it feels, I am seeing 330 torque at 1200 rpm and over 410 at mid 4000 rpm on my HPT scanner. These #s are not totally accurate, but give you an idea of the torque curve.
My truck ran fine with the cam and stock tune, but was a nice improvement after the tune. (idle was pretty choppy with the stock tune, but plenty driveable)
I also have the LTs and I do not feel that they hurt the low end at all. They do help mid+ rpm power quite a bit.
Good luck man.
