I am in the process of up gradeing to a FLT level 6, should be here this week. I am also still currently running a patriot cam that will be upgraded to my new BRE R kelly cam after the first test and tune this march. So that I can have a measurable test of time between each setup. I'm currently running mid to low 13's on the motor with 2.80 60' times on 255/70/16 at 105 mph. The BRE cam is a considerably larger cam. It will be installed and tuned for this spring.

HPT was widely used in 02 so thats a solid 8 years and its been used by many well after that so your thinking of tuning being the reason its used is wrong. I know for sure of a tuner who tuned a 5.3 with a 224 cam way back in 03 and the tr230 is easier to tune than that...
As far as how much he could have gained by going with another cam, we'll never know, I dont even think he owns the vehicle anymore. I can tell you he liked the cam for its out-of-boost driveability and ran pretty damn good considering a stock H2 is the 17 second range so 4 seconds off with a cammed LQ4 with a radix and bolt ons aint bad IMO.
I think we can all agree to disagree, a custom spec'ed cam is the best solution but the cam in question is not a bad choice for him IF he plans to stay N/A, just dont come on here blabbering like none of us know what we're talking about simply because we dont post over there on your "better" forums.

This all depends on who's spec-ing the cam...there's plenty of proven off the shelf grinds available that have put down first place numbers out there. I know that Ed Curtis is well known and respected, and have heard good and bad about Patrick G, but that's about all that I'm familiar with, besides the geniuses at Comp's tech line

I don't have any input/experience on reverse split cams, but i really like my FTI cam... IMO if your like me and don't know all the specifics on how all the specs of a cam affect different aspects of the powerband, i would leave it up to the professionals... I had several cam guys (patrick G, Ed Curtis, and WCCH) spec me out cams for my combo... after i looked threw thier suggestions i choose Ed... just my .02....
