Default timing chain

whose still running stock chain? will be installing turbo kit soon, thinking about upgrading the sloppy stock chain. wish i did it w/cam install but i was too tight i guess. never heard of one breaking, just piece of mind. 55,000 miles and running very stiff patriot dual extreme valve springs. i crank on it pretty good (6800 redline).

I upgraded my chain just for piece of mind. It wasn't any thicker, and just as sloppy. I was sort of disappointed by the new chain.

Get the GM HD chain. It's a lot thicker than the stockers in the truck engines.

I believe this is the chain that you're referring to, it used to be known as the LS2 timing chain, can't beat the price at just over 43 bux

A few guys have asked about the Iwis chain also, not sure of anybody using it, but it looks like a nice piece:

I got the Iwis chain. Haven't swapped cams yet, but read about it over on Tech and a number of people seemed to prefer it over the LS2 because of the early LS2 chain failures. I'll see if I can dig up the thread.

I think that around 05 or something the LS2 chain became standard equipment

I remember hearing something about that too, but haven't heard of any LS2 chain failures around here...

I went with the LS2 chain. Here is what it was supposed to look like vs. and old chain.

Here is what it really looked like vs. the old chain.

My truck is an 05, maybe thats why. Either way, if i had the cover off I can't see being in there without changing it. I initially thought it would be thicker though.

I remember noticing that my LS2 chain was meatier than my original, but I'm a 99...I'm sure that if we did a little research (or if Jarrod - 1Bear chimed in), that we'd find out that the LS2 chain did become standard equipment somewhere along the line, whether it be 04, 05 or whatever
