The only way I know of to check the lifters is to push down on the plunger, and if it moves really easily, it is definitely shot. This isn't a solid method though, as most times a lifter will be bad, but have tension to human hands. The bolts will have quite a smell to them, this is normal. You shouldn't need the copper spray for the head gaskets, IIRC Cometic recommends against it. What head gaskets are you gonna use, GM MLS?

you cant really check the lifters. you can make sure the roller moves smoothly and that it has to major scratches or flat sides... other than that, sometimes you can get the plunger to move, some wont
fyi LS7 lifters are the same as any other sbc lifter... good selling feature though

yeah stock mls gaskets. the only thing i noticed was that when they were on the truck i could push on number 4 rockers and the spring would expand. and when i took them apart they had less oil than number 2's.
well off to remove other head.

only one or two of the bolts on this side was wet. unlike the other side where they were almost all wet.
