Towing/performance cam for 2013 denali 6.2
I just bought a 2013 GMC Denali with the 6.2L:
What would be a better cam for Mileage,Performance, and Towing.
The truck is stock at this time with this of mods happening in the next year:
ARH 1 7/8" headers, custom dual 3" exhaust with C6 Z06 mufflers, Tune, 160 T-stat, CAI.
I want t
o use the stock tq-converter. And was thinking maybe using the LS9 cam or maybe even the stock LS3 cam. I don't know anything about the VVT cams other than after 3000-3500 this truck really wakes up.
Please only hard facts, like real numbers, what someone used that did not work and what is working.

I have a 26' 2-axle enclosed trailer for 2 sprint cars, total trailer weight loaded is about 6500lbs. I only tow about 100 miles round trip 2 weekends a month during race season.

There more expensive, but vinci cam would be perfect for your needs.
"ultra tq square port"
210/222 .551/.551 Lsa 116 1500-6200rpms very high tq gains better fuel economy than the stock cam with a good tune
or if you want a lil more chop
"torker square port"
212/224 .551/.551 Lsa 14 1700-6200rmps lil bit more aggressive cam then the one above
Forget the 160 degree thermostat the do more damage to the motor, but not really. 160 is not hot enough to properly allow the coolant/water fuilds evaporate properly. It's a old car legend that makes sense like the "throttle body spacer" lol but it doesn't provide any benefits. There is a reason gm put in around a 190 thermostat
Any who either one of those cam will pull the shaaat out of your trailer
I would start with long tube, CAI, and dyno tune before the cam swap and see how you like that power first. In a 6.2L stock with just those mods should be around 50-60rwhp 40-50rwtq

Call up Roger at Vinci and he'll grind the cam with any LSA you want... I'd go with the "ultra torque" but with a 115 LSA if I had it to do over again. Dual 3" is too big for that truck... the highest I'd go is dual 2.5".
The list I'd recommend:
LT headers
Dual 2.5" exhaust
Volant CAI (powercore)
Cam (something with a fairly short intake duration, high lift and fairly steep ramp)
UD damper/ OD alternator (and a 185* thermostat... Lingenfelter and Vinci both recommend it)
Blackbear in-person tune
To supplement those you'll also want PAC 1218 springs, hardened pushrods and some new gaskets.
The list I'd recommend:
LT headers
Dual 2.5" exhaust
Volant CAI (powercore)
Cam (something with a fairly short intake duration, high lift and fairly steep ramp)
UD damper/ OD alternator (and a 185* thermostat... Lingenfelter and Vinci both recommend it)
Blackbear in-person tune
To supplement those you'll also want PAC 1218 springs, hardened pushrods and some new gaskets.

I have pacesetter long tubes with 3" ture duals. Has x pipe and another x pipe built in my dual 3" inlet and outlet magnaflow muffler
I gained close to 17rwhp and 11rwtq with 3" vs 2.25 with no x pipes on a lil 5.3L
but he is most likely right about 2.5" you will have more back pressure for more tq
3"= more hp
2.5" = more tq
I think my xpipes helped create back pressure so I didnt lose tq

I will run full dual 3" exhaust.
I ran dual 3" exhaust on my GXP with the LS3 no an all stock motor with a vararam cai and a LMR (Late Model Racecraft tune) and 396rwhp and Im sorry but I don't remember the tq #'s. But the GXP ran a best time 11.9x @ 118 with a 2.02 60' and never stopped pulling. I have the LS9 cam siting on the self with all the goodies to go with the cam swap. I never got around to installing it in the GXP. thats why I was asking about this cam in this truck. I will do all the bolt-on's with a tune first. I'm not really wanting to spend a whole bunch of money if I don't have too.
