Default tr220, shift kit, stall, tranny mods, need some help

Ok well I've pretty much decided that the next mod to my truck is gonna be the tr220, along with a tune and a few basic tranny modifications. I want to do the shift kid, billet servos and all the other pretty standard stuff by myself. I've heard it's pretty do-able but messy. About how long should I expect to spend on those mods and is it pretty do-able without ever have working with a transmition. The next question is, how big of a stall would I need with that tr220? I was thinking along the lines of a 2800, but I want as small as possible since this is my old source of transportation and I don't want to sacrifice daily driveability.

So I guess the bottom line is how easy is this stuff to install(including the stall converter)? And what would be my best bet as far as my cam/stall for my 5.3L without sacrificing driveability. Oh and how much should I expect to spend for all this? the tr220 is around $400, the stall will probably be around $500, $150 for shift kit, and I figure around $500 for the springs, servos and all the other small thigns that add up

Thanks in advance.

I think a TR220 is a little to big with a 2800stall??? I would say go with a 216/220 and the 2800stall or even the TB converter which I believe is a 2600 and is alot cheaper than any aftermarket... plus I think you still get to keep all of your towing capabilities as well?? I would say cam/springs ~$500-$600.. and I believe the TB converter is in the $200's.... no comment on the transmission internal's, I have no clue about transmissions...

oh I forgot to add(if it matters) that my truck is no longer lifted, it sees no offroad use, and I have never towed a single thing with my truck.

As far as the tr220 goes, assuming it doesnt affect daily driving much, it is my first choice so what size stall should I use...a 3k or even a 3200...or even bigger yet? I am quite unfamiliar with common cam/stall applications so please bear with me

I think for your truck a 3200 would be right but the 3000 will do..... .02

I think the 2800 would be good. It sounds like a good combo to me. I ran a 218/224 in my 5.3 with no stall. And I have a 223/226 with a 3000. I probably could have gone 2800, or even 2600. (but I have a 6l) I takded to Fuddle with my 5.3 and he recomended a 26-2800 with teh 218/224

just out of curiousity, do yall have any idea what I would be running in the quarter after this setup, I do have the 3.73's gears in my truck as well as.(tr220, a 2800 stall, shift kit and headers. I also have a k&N fipk and dynomax true dual bullets.) Im hoping to eventually get in the low 14's and I think with all this a high 14 would seem reasonable?

Well, my truck weighs about 4900lbs with 3.73 and 26" DR's in th eback, I went 13.78 with some tuning issues, and no boltons. I have a different motor and bigger cam, but its 4wd. I would guess you would be mid 14's but there is only one way to find out for sure.

If your looking for the least amount of stall Id go with a 2400 but nothing less. Install is a bitch might as well hold off on the shift kit until you get the stall too having the tranny down makes it alot easier.

Damn, thats right around where I want to be(assuming thats pretty close to a stock lightning). As far as the valve springs go, what brand and specs should I use for those, and I've heard ill need a spring compressor so where can I get a cheap on of those that will still do the job well

COmp 918s and their pushrods are good. You will have ot pull the tranny to put the stall in there so do the shift kit while its out of the truck. A 3000 stall will be fine. I had one in my heavy *** truck(5600#s) and it wasnt bad at all. A 3000 with the TR220 will **** and get for sure. Shift kit while off the truck will take about 4 hours to do it all right and check everything. LOTS of little bb's a nd springs and **** take your time. The cam will take about 8 hours since you ahvent done one before and pulling the tranny and installing it will take about 8-9 hours. So you are talking pulling the tranny out friday night and putting it all back together sunday evening to do all those mods IMO. But you will be in the low low 14s with those mods.
