Talking TR224 112lsa cam

Just shopping around for a good cam right now and saw the TR224 from thunder racing. Wondering if this cam would be a good choice for a daily driven ECSB 2006 5.3L. mods are going to be pacesetter lt's, qtec dual 3" cutouts, modified intake manifold, custom tune from gforce, and maybe a TB stall if I have the money later on. possibly a TNT 100-150 shot. didn't know if anyone on this board had a similar combo or not. if so post up your combo and the results you got. dyno graph's would be rather juicy

thats pretty borderline on daily drivability. no real experience, only from what ive read in the forums. i was really considering this cam at one point. youll need atleast a 3000 stall and alot of people think its not good for a heavy extended cab. all of this is considering you have the 5.3. if you have a 6.0 rock on

after watching l33z71's big ol' crewcab 5.3 runnin DEEP into the 14's im considering the cam he used to get my fat truck rollin. 216/220 @ 114. it should give a noticeable lope, great drivability and work with a TB stall. once again no experience here, just ALOT of reading. im sure someone will correct me if im wrong anywhere.

The grind on my cam is close. I have a bit more lift. In a rcsb 4wd, I love it. But I do have a 6.0. I ran a 218/224 before with my 5.3 and liked it too. I think you will need at LEAST a 2800 stall, but you'd be happier with a 3000 IMO. I ran the 5.3 with the 218/224 and no stall, it was ok, but I lost a lot of low end.
Right now, I have a Cam Motion custom ground cam that was ground for a 3000 stall. When my last tranny ate the dust, I went back with a Tb stall till I can save up some cash for another 3000. With the 32's I wasnt happy with it, but with some smaller tires I like it a lot. Can anyone say stalker? I pulled the Z-71 stickers, lowered it, and put some 285/60's on it Its real fun now. It ran a 13.7 before, Im ready to see what it'll do now when I get it tuned right and another 3000 stall.

Anyway. I think you would like teh TR224 but get a 3000 stal. Or get a TR220 it would work with a smaller stall.

Keep in mind, I drive mine everyday, and USE the crap out of the 4wd, and Im happy

TR220 would work better but you are going to NEED a stall to get the most out of the cam. Pretty much any cam you will lose bottom end so you need the stall to make up for it. I would still go with a 3K stall with the tr220 but it will haul *** for sure. I had a 222/224 112lsa cam in my old 5.3 and it had no nutts down low with a stall that only stalled to 2500. It needed a 3200 stall bad. You are a bit lighter and have less driveline loss since Im 4wd so IMO a 220 would be perfect and ALOT of guys are having great sucess with it.

the comp 216/220 like tex said would be a good combo with a tb stall.
i think the 224 will be a lil too much for what you are looking for it being a daily driver.
the biggest i'd go is the 220, but be prepared to drop in a 3k stall in that ext cab.

I want to end up doing the tr220 cam with a 3000k stall, I have a feeling my tranny is about 20k from blowing So I might end up doing a 6.0 4l80e swap in stead. I think it would only be about $1000-1500 more expensive for the 6.0/tranny swap

i think 6.0/tranny swap is much much more than a cam swap

You can pick up a nice 6L with 80e for 2K add a cam and springs while your in there and a shift kit to the 80e so ur up to 2800 give or take not bad for the performance and strength you gain.

I wish they made a 216/220 with a high lift.... I am so tempted to do a TR220 with the TB stall but dont know??? do yall think I can get away with this combo??? I really want to stay with the TB stall.......
