Yea, we have done testing on a few TR grinds vs ours with same duration, LSA and ICL to see the differences between their lobes and ours (XER). I found the link on the 224vs224 but can't find the 220vs220 info right yet...

Baseline Stock LS1 Camshaft

That is the testing on an LS1, not a 5.3L but the results will be the same just with a slightly lower baseline and after number. The 5.3L heads act much like the 241's do with extra lift, duration, etc so it is actually a decent test still!

Turbulence is basically (in my untechnical terms) when a port stops flowing more when you add more lift. A decent ported LSx head should not get turbulent until at least .700" lift, sometimes a good bit more! The stock heads vary a bit, but they typically will go .650"ish before you see it on them (sorry I don't have any empirical data in front of me on this to share currently). Now that doesn't mean a stock long-block needs .650" lift, because other components in the combo can limit the flow through the process to less than that....so that extra lift beyond a certain point doesn't always add power at all. There should be gobs of info floating on the net about this as well!

Matt you have pretty well got me talked into your 220 cam for my 2010 when I get to that stage but if you find a dyno for the 5.3 with that cam I would love to see it.(late model 5.3 with the better heads and intake would probly be askin way too much)

A member on here M3srt uses the tsp220 cam in his NNBS truck. Look over in the media section, he has dozens of race videos of his truck. Many with the stock converter lol.. I plan on using the tsp220 in my 5.3 once i get to that point

Lots of good info on this. Sure looks like i will be going with the tsp220 cam.

What springs, retainers, and locks do i need with this cam? Could i run the comp beehive springs?

You reuse your stock retainers etc just get some pac 1218 springs. The comp 918 works too the same way stock replacements but the comp 918 in the past had a bad habit of breaking. Since then they have been revised and should be okay but I didn't wanna take any chances so I used Pac 1218's. Pac makes great springs and were the original makers of the OLD Comp 918's when they first came out when they were good.

Also get some hardened pushrods or just get the cam package from TSP which has everything.

this thread has made me feel pretty good about my 224r. i got the more expensive package which came out to about 700 total. it was about 100 bucks extra but comes with dual springs over singles and comes with titanium retainers instead of reusing the old ones. you can feel the difference in weight. either package would be good tho when i called they said i didnt really need the duals or retainers for .581 lift but i ordered them anyways. figured i might as well install them while its torn apart and for $100 more it wasnt that big of deal

i believe they are both equally the same.... im pretty sure if TR would post up their comparison it will the the opposite of TSP's..... BOTH are proven cams no doubt.... I know bluecajun has been running the TR220 for a long time and he is one of the best running 5.3's here...
