TSP 228/228 .588/.588 112 in 5.3?
I am considering putting this cam in my truck at some point. Plans are 3200 stall and longtubes as well. Is this cam to much for the motor? I also plan on getting heads if I get this cam, but at a later date.
TIA

i wouldnt say that it is too much for the motor.BUT i would say that it is quite a but too much for the stall especially depending on 1, how loose your stall is, and 2, what cab you have on your truck. if it were me, and i wanted that cam i would look into a 3600 stall or something but some people dont want to have to deal with that for a DD. with my cam, an FMS 224/228 .588 .576 112 with a 3200 stall that is pretty loose and will actually stall to 3400, it feels pretty good. i would say a 228/228 is getting a little big depending on supporting mods and your goals though.

Little big for what you say your planning on running for sure.Your gonna want to run a bigger stall than that with a cam of that size for a nice launch or else it will end up feeling like a dog until you hit 4000 rpms.
BTW:Soon what does your truck dyno/run quarter?

I would like to make around 400 rwhp N/A when its done. I would be willing to go to a 3400 stall, but I kind of thought a 3200 would be enough??? I have an ext-cab.
I was also considering a 224/224 .581/.581 112 if the 228 would be too much.

damn touch, i hate posting my numbers up haha but here it goes (i have reasons) it did 275/301 BUT this was one a TERRIBLE tune, only 20* of timing to say the least, and it was WITHOUT my LT's, cutout, and efans. so im thinkin right now, to bench-dyno myself im probably at 325/330 or something MAYBE never been to the track though. im not going to go until i have another spare tire rim and 2 ET streets. i would hope for high 13's though i think.

If your in a extended cab then yes thats gonna be too much man.The 224 with a 3400 stall should do decent.
If your wanting to hit 400hp N/A on a 5.3 it's gonna take alot to get it there.
With full bolt ons and that cam you would hit around a 340-355ish range.
Your gonna have to do heads and more than likely swap the truck intake out for a Fast or LS6 intake.
Also don't forget the rod end bolts on these motors can give. With a 224 cam and the intake swap your gonna want to spin that thing to at least 6800 or so to make the most out of that cam and head combo.
