The 228 will have a slightly higher powerband, and want more converter and gear. If it were more of a street truck I'd go with the 224, more of a track truck, the 228...just my opinion. I'm planning on something in the 224 range for my LQ9, but I'm a little conservative. There are guys daily driving 228's in their 5.3's and loving them. I wouldn't waste the coin of the 1.8's though, if you want more lift have the cam custom ground for it.

I got a buddy with a 228r cam in his camaro im couldnt beleave the low end torque that cam made, after a ridding in that car id never take the 224 over the 228.

I agree. 228 still isnt that big of a cam for a 6.0. Esp in a rcsb

Plenty of torque from my 228r, feels more torquey than my 216/220 ever was.

I just put the tsp228 in my 5.3 and I love it and its my dd. Also running the stock converter for now. I raced a buddy and he has my old 220 and also a 150 shot and let's just say he didn't pull on me much. Won't ever go back to a smaller cam.

I've said it before and I'll say it again..If you have a 6.0 and run anything less that a 230's duration cam, you're leaving lots of power on the table. There's absolutely no reason that you couldn't daily drive something like a 232/236. I had that cam in a 5.3 for a long time as a daily with a stock converter. Just need a good tuner. And no on the 1.8's
