No need to change the rod bolts in your situation on these ls engines.

The LS engines are built very strong from the factory. That is why you see numerous people run 10+ pounds of boost on a stock engine. Hotrod magazine made 1200 hp on a stock 4.8L with two 76mm turbos. All they did was change the gap of the top rings and use ARP studs..

With your tsp 224 in the 5.3L I would spin it at 6600rpm starting out, then get it dynoed and if you want to spin it a little higher later on then do it if you want.

How many miles do you have on the engine anyway?

I have no idea on actual numbers with my truck. It runs good on the interstate and has no problems in the passing gear department. I spin mine at 6500 rpm.

As for a torque converter, if you don't really tow anything I would try and get at least a 10" 3200-3400rpm converter if you are not wanting to go much higher than a 3000. A 9.5" or a 10" would wake that truck up. A 278mm (11 inch) is good if you are on a budget, but you will want more sooner or later.

Yeah Chris at Circle D recommended a 9 3/4 3200 to 3400 stall for my 5.3 with that cam. I'm running 4:11 gears with a 305/50/20 tire but mite put more gear in it later.
