Default Turbo engine combo!?! Help.

I have a fun-dilema and hope those of you with WAY more experience than I can help me out. I'm running a GT-76 STS turbo on my LM7. Yup it's a GT-76, and I realize it's too big of a turbo for a 5.3L. Turbo was bought with the intention of getting to 1000rwhp. Boring out and forging the 5.3L has it's limits and risks and plan on going with a new engine. I'm looking for anything 6.0L and above that will fit without too much complication in my truck and can handle high boost.
Here are some factors:
-Truck is 2005 GMC Sierra Crew Cab(I know I know).
-Budget for engine is set at $6,000(including forged internals).
-Truck for stree use and strip, i.e. has to be legal.
-(This is stupid but) mid and high range power preferable, I'm not towing sleds.
-Tranny looks to be a FLT 4L80E-5, for now at least.
-Not planning on using NO2.

I figure this can be a Performancetrucks.net project truck. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated and if I forgot anything else of importance let me know, I've been awake for 39 hours and I'm alittle groggy.

I think you can do a good build for ~6K with a bored 6.0l and internals. 317 heads are cheap and some of the 5.3 parts will bolt right on.

For 6k you could build a forged 408, which you will need IMO for 1000rwhp. You should also have money left over for a set of heads, your going to need alot of airflow to make that much power even with a big turbo. And don't forget about your fuel system.

A 408 sounds like it's the best bet so far! Now just have to figure out how to keep the costs down, thanks!
