why would you want to put a cam that big in a 5.3? do you think its going to really fast? get you a 5000 stall and rev it to 7200 and it might run like a tr228/230 with a 3600 converter. just sayin.. do your research. there is nothing beneficial in running a cam like that in a 5.3 just plain stupid even if its in a car.

valve
.025 no valves issues 4.8 has flat pistons,5.3 dished pistons. 225/229 581/591 patriot cam,3.73 gear ,lost power a bit
down low, but these babys love rpm's. I did not expect to be a bullet from the hole, but from 30 mph rolls you'll be surprised. Remember a good PCM tune.

Cam to use
The cam, depends on the modification you make on your engine. I have 4.8 engine run a 225/229 581/591 mayor head work. port, polish, mill, jump compression from 9.5:1 to 10.5:1 . Used this cam because I'm not looking for 1/4
mile times, top end power. this engine it's a fast reving engine and a small one. belive me I was racing side by side with a friend with a camaro he saw 135mph. With a good valentine One radar detector, open highway you'll think you are in a big trunk Camaro. i have seen lots of guys in sports cars thinking, What the ****!!!

biggest ive seen in a truck is a 224/228 112+4 it only went 12.9-13.0 on DRs. my CCSB runs 12.7s with a smaller cam than you're even talking about running and i have a bigger motor. id be scared to run that big of a cam in a mild p&p head 5.3 your need a 3600+ with 4:30-4:56s or hell even 4:88s to make your truck streetable. BUT everyones opinion on whats a "DD" is different. i like my set up but i wish it DD better. i still have to tinker with the tune and possibly add a few * of timing to make it a little faster...we'll see one day!
good luck man! i wouldnt run past a TSP228 with a 3400+ converter and 4:10s
