Compression is the biggest reason for a loss of torque with a bigger cam. Here is the dyno sheet from my 5.3L. My bigger cam 5.3L even without headers makes decent torque down low with a fairly flat torque curve.

My wifes Tahoe with a TR224 on a 112LSA in it has no problem at all with torque. Here is a video of it pulling a trailer with the back of the Tahoe also loaded full pulling up hills. Note the rpm, throttle percentage, etc. Even in overdrive at 1700rpm it was fine if I'd trusted the stock trans to pull i overdrive.

Z06 cam for NA or boost?
For boost they have been somewhat proven, but there are better cams out there but of course they are goin to cost more.

Lownslo06 has one in his LQ4, i wish we had a before and after but after some tuning it did wake up. and it seemed to pull to 6300 fairly well.

I wish we could have a before and after the cam with the turbo also.

We've done some engine dyno testing that you might find interesting.

Baseline is the stock LS1 camshaft. The combo is Kooks 1 7/8" engine dyno headers, stock LS1 long-block with 853 casting heads, 85mm MAF, and then the cam swaps with tuning for each swap.

After creating these baselines we tested lots of new camshaft combos & settled on the all new TSP 224/227 camshaft using all new custom Texas Speed lobes. The new TSP camshaft is a 224/227 .615"/605 112. This camshaft helps to maximize power potential using 224 intake duration.
*also included is the new 224 TSP lobe as a single pattern** (run 59)
