Trickflow, in my opinion. This is an aftermarket head casting and is of superior strength to a GM casting, a big plus if you ever go to forced induction. Also, they have a 13.5 degree valve angle which really helps to boost low to mid lift air flow and increase piston-to-valve clearance if you are using a bigger camshaft. Apples to apples on a 427, the trickflow 235cc heads outpower ported LS7 heads throughout the powerband. This goes to show you that the cathedral port heads can outdo GM's absolute best square port factory CNC'd head.

AFR is also in the running, but their heads seem to be of older R&D/technology than the Trickflow stuff. The downside to the trickflow heads though is the necessity of aftermarket roller rockers.

GMCtrk thats what i am thinking as well, Trick Flow really seams to Have it Down Pat with the LS Heads, AFR was Beat in a back to back a while ago and they are more expensive than the tfs heads! And on there new 205cc head 300cfm, 58cc chambers you can run the factory rockers so i think its coming down to which TFS head, I Definately want Aftermarket castings!, Will the 225-235 head bolt on a 3.905 bore? i understand the valve shrouding issue

I believe with a 3.905 bore you'd be relegated to the 215 cc Trickflows. I'm pretty sure the 225s are for 4" bore minimum. I think hands down the way to go with the trickflow's is the 220 cc "as cast" heads. They are $600 cheaper than the CNC'd 215's and on a back to back dyno they are only down 8-10 rwhp I believe.

hmmm, sounds good man, thanks for the info, i think its gotta be the 215's for sure though, I'm also trying to get the new LSXRT intake so it will be interesting to see what numbers she pulls, i'm thinking 228-232 .600 112lsa cam and 11.3:1 comp so maybe i'll see 400+ at the wheels!

there have been several 5.3s posted on here that pushed 400 rwhp with CNC ported 5.3L castings. So I have no doubt 400 is a possibility if you take that route.
