Aluminum blocks when they go usually go in pieces.. I've seen a Aluminum block 5.7L blow up and when we took the oil pan off the lifters were in the pan along with a big 5" gap hole on the side of the block.... with a iron block you'll still will more then likely just need a rebuilt kit rather then a whole new engine setup starting from scratch..It's just a little more reassurance

Yup. Plus the cost is over $1k difference after all the parts add up. And the iron distributes the heat better, as well as has less cylinder wall distortion.

I'm actually doing the same thing. Only thing is that i'm doing it in a chevy s10. A 5.3 bored to a 5.7 If anyone can tell me what choice of aftermarket piston and rods I can use it would very helpful.

I got my 4.8 to 5.7 ls1 running Sunday. I have to get the vats deleted and the pcm tuned plus some exhaust run. Maybe it will roast some 20's

go with a 6.0 i got a complete LQ4 for 2,000$ w/ 1800 miles on it
