Aluminum blocks when they go usually go in pieces.. I've seen a Aluminum block 5.7L blow up and when we took the oil pan off the lifters were in the pan along with a big 5" gap hole on the side of the block.... with a iron block you'll still will more then likely just need a rebuilt kit rather then a whole new engine setup starting from scratch..It's just a little more reassurance

I'm actually doing the same thing. Only thing is that i'm doing it in a chevy s10. A 5.3 bored to a 5.7 If anyone can tell me what choice of aftermarket piston and rods I can use it would very helpful.
