That's a big difference in engine world.

Not in pin/compression height, that's nothing. In bearing clearances, yes, but the piston being higher of lower by only .003 is nothing at all, guys cut .010 off decks and .040 off heads all the time, this is relatively the same kind of thing.

There has been 6-10 threads like this with people asking about running 4.8 pistons in a 5.3 and everything says it should work, buy no one has ever actually done it and posted back.

Wasn't it already stated that the .003" difference is also likely due to rounding errors and significant digits?

Just to clear this I looked up the parts in the part catalogue for GM. The 4.8L and the 5.3L H.O. L33 use the same pistons (same part number). This is why the 5.3L L33 uses a bigger chamber head and still has a higher compression piston. The piston for 05'-07' 4.8L is part number 89017577 as is the part number for the L33 5.3L.

So they will fit. Good. I had always wondered that myself. From what I read in other posts I decided they were different. I stand corrected.

Does anyone have first hand experience with using 4.8 pistons in a 5.3 or vica versa?

No, you're not.

If you're going to be doing a build of any kind, do your own homework, legwork, and make sure it works for yourself... These forums are merely a place to get headed in some sort of the right direction... If you were to use what one person says and say, it doesn't work... Are you going to try to hold them accountable?

A lot of people are way to trusting of forum info to begin with. I know Robert personally and he wouldn't purposely mislead anyone.... Bottom line is, get on the phone and make some calls, do other means of research... There's TONS of good info here, I'd say we've peobably got someone here that's probably done just about anything there is to be done with this engine platform. Look here but the final product is up to you, your hands are on the wrenches...

Sorry for the soapbox session, I just got off work, kinda frustrated anyway.... Carry on...
