Default 4.3 cheap mods

Got a few buddies that all have ex cab 4.3L s-10's, all of them are wanting some simple cheap mods to make em quicker. Well each of em said they had around $500 bucks to spend, so i told all them a homemade intake, cut the cats, 2 aerochambers dumped. But i'm curious, does jesse at Wait4Me tune for 4.3L s-10's too??? If so i'll definetly be telling them to get one b/c it helped my truck out a good bit. But i just wanna know what are the top things that are gonna improve these trucks the most for $500 dollars, thanx fellahs.

Home-made intake and gutting the cats are good cheap mods. Another relatively cheap exhaust mod that will help is to swap out the stock Y pipe (very restrictive) with a Y pipe from a 4x4 Blazer (bigger diameter, will flow way better). Other than that, there's not too much else. A mild cam will do wonders, and if you have 3.08 gears, get at least 3.42s.

yeah i was thinking the homemade intake myself, and i have a buddy that will do exhaust work for me pretty cheap so any exhaust is possible. He kept saying he was wanting longtubes but i told him they wouldn't worth the money yet, told him that i think gutting the cats and getting true duals and a homemade intake was gonna give him more power than just the LT's

Headers are a waste of money on a stock 4.3. Replace the y-pipe first. An intake, homemade or whatever, will help as will the exhaust. Hypertech programmers can liven up the 4.3 as well but tend to be rather pricey, so if you have someone that can re-flash the chip that might be a more economical way to go. I have never seen the gains of dual exhaust but some people believe very stongly in them. I would suggest getting a good flowing single exhaust for a V6, any V6.

I did a K&N flat panel replacement filter on my 03 S10 and cut the bottom of the stock airbox out.

Seemed to do the trick to wake it up a bit. That and take the spare tire out, lightened up the rear just enough to have fun sliding around most corners.

I had a Jet chip in my old 91. That along with a VB and a throttle body spacer ( and before you say those aren't worth anything, they're worth small mid range gains on a wet intake setup such as my old TBI motor was ), homemade CAI and catless sport duals made that thing a helluva lot of fun. I could out run stock Dak R/T's all day long, light em up in second and sometimes third.

Check out CFM technologies for throttle bodys for the newer 4.3's. The new ones have restriction plates on one side of the throttle blade from the factory. These guys take the tb and and port it to as big as the intake manifold will allow, and they polish it also, then they put a regular throttle blade in it with low profile screws. I really noticed a big difference with mine. In performance and gas mileage. I think it is like around $200 from those guys. Hope this helps....

Also If you have 4l60e in the truck you can do a vette servo in the tranny for $25, you can also do hotter ignition, wires, plugs, CAI, exhaust, and hand held tuner. Also lighten the trucks up a bit will do wonders also as someone already said.
