Default Anyone tow their race car with 2005 5cyl Colorado?

Good afternoon.

Just wondering if my 2005 Colorado has enough ***** to tow my 99 Trans Am to the track on an open trailer, safely.

It's a 2005, 4 doors with the inline 5 cylinder.

Would appreciate it if anyone has any experience or input.

Personally, I wouldn't. Its kind of like the tail wagging the dog if you will. I just dont think its safe seeing your car and trailer will probably weigh more than your truck. If you have to stop short, it most likely wont be pretty even if you have electric brakes.

Maybe with a tow bar, but that is not what you want.
According to www.auto-towing.net you are limited to 4,000 lbs.
Your Trans Am is likely over 3,000 lbs. and a steel trailer would be 2,000 lbs.

On a forum i use to post at someone was doing it with a C5 Corvette and trailer. I'm sure it has the power and many people have exceeded those tow ratings, but safe...eh, maybe if its always sunny when you're towing and you go slow.

We towed with a I-5 4 door colorado for 70k miles, open 21' car trailer, with dual axles and brakes on all 4 wheels.

Spent all 70k miles towing, everything from a 1978 280z, to a 2005 GTO, to a 1992 GMC ext cab longbed dually with a 454 (only towed that 15 miles though, completely on the trailer though), to my 1985 ext cab v8 s10, or my 95 reg cab v8 s10.

Florida is much different, as we dont have huge hills or anything. But still...

Get a good Class 5 hitch and weight distribution kit and you should be fine. OH..make sure you have good trailer brakes and brake controls in cab.

I have the 2door 2005 Colorado I5...it's got ***** for a little guy but I bet it would fall flat on its face. Good news is it won't spin wheels every where. LOL I tuned my a little and I can't take off from anywhere without squealing the tires. Like others are suggesting if you do...electric brakes with controller in your cab would be a huge suggestion.
