CODE4LS1, whats up man!
I've got a new 4.3 HD rad in my 4.8 setup but I havent taken it down the road yet so I cant comment on cooling but I learned there are two questions that go hand in hand with what rad someone is using.
1. Does the tranny fluid run through it or do they use a remote trans cooler.
2. What fans are they running.
My rad isn't recessed and i've got truck accessories so i've only got 3.5" between rad and motor so I will be running slim fans plus A/C so to be safe i'm gonna run a separate trans cooler with fan under the bed.

What fans are you using on it? I have a stock 4.3 radiator infront of my bored 350 in my blazer and it never got over 200 in city. Have 2 600cfm fans on it that you can feel all the way to the firewall.

I have a 6.0 in mine, Flexalite 210 electrics and functioning a/c. I have about 6000 miles on the swap and have driven it all over Texas in stop and go traffic with the a/c on and she stays perfectly happy around 225 on high fans in traffic in 110 degree heat. Backs off and hovers at 210 running down the road. I'm running vet accessories on mine.

I used a set of LT1 fans for a year or so but the LT1 radiator is taller so the shroud hung down farther than the rad. I recently acquired a set off a 99 or so grand am that cover the radiator better but is a little smaller than the core itself. I havent tried them yet but if they are not adequate enough I can always go back to the LT1 style.
