4.8L-powered transam
ok well here's the story:
we've been contemplating this for a long time but never got around to it. we were going to put a stock 4.8L in a car and try to race some stock 4.6L stangs. it never happened for various reasons.
then dustin (the guy that owns the t/a) noticed his motor started ticking kinda loud. we had several 4.8s laying around (from swapping to 6.0s in trucks) so we decided to go ahead with the 4.8 project. our only problem was that his car is tuned for the LS1 with f11 cam. we didn't like the idea of running a stock 4.8 off of that so we put the cam in the 4.8. the tune is still untouched and the car is an A4 with a Vig 3200.
with that in mind we called out our buddy with a H/C 4.6L steeda mustang. we figured a cam'd 4.8L vs a H/C 4.6L would finally put to rest the displacement excuse the mustang guys like to use. also, i'd like to point out that, no matter what that video says, Spike (the guy that owns the mustang) has never made any excuses, cried, or anything....he's one of the coolest guys i know. i think mark (formula346 that made the movie) directed that comment more towarad the people who get on the internet and fight about this stuff.
unfortunately, the mustang never made it to the race spot saturday nite. the car ate the belt (he thinks from a bad pulley) which in turn made the computer go hay-wire from lack of power.
the 4.8 transam did race a 12.9X ws6 and a high 12 sec t/a and beat both of them. we are currently working on getting that video up. the guy with the mustang will be out of town for the next weekend unfortunately so it may be a while before we get to make that race. unfortunately there aren't really any other 4.6L mustangs around here that would be fair competition.
also, the car is really not that slow. if it had more converter it would probably be even more impressive. when nailed from a dig on nittos it will dead hook and flash to the stall point, then pulls slowly until about 4K where it rips to the shift point. its gunna be a big change for dustin going from that LS1
and here's the video of the silver 4.8 TA from 04/08/06:
