I'm pretty sure ours are mounted next to the fire wall on the driver side and have 2 pieces to them.

actually it was only from 00-02 for tahoe and yukon. and 99-02 for silvy/sierra. neither my 99 tahoe nor my dad's 97 silverado obs had them.

the air filter is a pita to change out and you have to take the HVAC cover off of the air conditioning unit. there is one bolt under the center console that you will need to take out from the driver's side. one bolt under the center can be taken out from the passenger side, and the other two bolts are under the dash on the passenger's side of the cab. once you get that cover off, there is a door to the filter(s). one pulls down, and the other pulls out and then down. if you've never changed them before you'll be surprised what you find. my advice is to take some lysol or disinfectant spray (nothing toxic) and spray on the heater coils to kill any germs that are in the system. let it air out with the air conditioning and engine on before getting in. once you do that, slide the two new filters in the way you took the old ones out. finally bolt up the shroud to the air conditioning unit, unless you have the patience of a saint, you will get three of the four bolts back in. if i remember correctly, you'll have a very difficult time getting the second bolt from the left in place. after everything is bolted back up, you're good to go.

So true. I've done mine twice, and both times I ended up getting frustrated, and just jamming the bolt up there until it didn't fall down anymore. I have NO clue how you're expected to get that bolt back in.

I took mine off to see if i had a filter and only put like 2 bolts back in. Just enough to keep it there
