No doubt..they run hard stock...I am curious to see Flacos results as well..But I am more interested in a n/a application..We all know what boost does..lol..4.8's making 1200+ hp on a STOCK engine...Wonder if the Dodge 4.7 would do similar...

If anyone was to do it it would be hell to tune it. If its a pain already to tune the 5.7 imagin the 4.7 when there is no aftermarket really for them...So my answer to you is

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THE 4.7 ARE TURDS AND SUCK *****

I don't know anything about Chrysler products. Perhaps the overdrive in this transmission has a dedicated planetary gear set like the 4L80-E and is programmed to apply after second when manual shifting. Seems logical, there isn't much need to be manually shifting about the speeds that would take you to.
If it's really the case that it has three planetary gearsets and is going from second to second+overdrive, the next upshift should be a huge loss in RPM because the ratio difference is so wide. Is that the case?
As far as splitting gears and using "in between" ratios to get a jump on the competition, yes you have a solid argument - that is an absolutely valid point. Back when I used to screw around on the street in the Tahoe I'd split first with the Gear Vendors overdrive and then try to time the disengagement perfectly in sync with the automatic 1-2 upshift. Sometimes I'd nail it right, other times I'd end up over revving the engine. When it worked is was worth almost a car length advantage to 60mph versus letting just the transmission automatically upshift.
This is a sound clip from 2002 where you can hear 1st, then 1st/over, then it goes to second with the GV still engaged, so 2nd/over. 0-70mph:

Maybe GV has an installation kit for your transmission. They're fun.
