Watch videos of dyno pulls. The car typically moves 1-2 inches forward while making a pull. So call me an idiot all you want but most often the car lurches back and forth a few inches. With such a small amount of wiggle room it wouldn't be hard to have this big tire contact the floor.

And the movement you see is the truck coming up on and off the tire. That's going to happen on a big *** tire like that.

Looks like 2-3" of clearance to me. nothing wrong with that. Is there any pro/con to having it pulled up on the back of the roller like that versus the front side?

I cant remember if there is any difference.

It would be much more devastating if it went too far forward as opposed to too far back. The further you let it go forward the more it pulls against the strap and pushes on the roller...so less chance of tire slippage.
