Default Chick Wanting To talk/learn about bolts, nuts, & pistons

This is my lovely 1984 GMC LW 305 Beast. I got it for $250 for scrap now look at how much she is worth. It all original except the paint job and front and back windshields(weather stripping was going bad in the back one). Power windows, doors, working factory cassette radio, beige interior, dark brown dash.I am thinking about putting a 5.3 or 6.0 or 496...not sure.I am wanting to put a 273 cam in it or maybe a little bigger...?It still has a lot of work to be done yet but she is looking pretty good aint she?[/COLOR]

Is there anyway I can get the turning radius better & what modifications should I consider?

Awesome truck, still want one of those one day! As for an engine swap, any LS series engine would be a HUGE improvement over the 305.

6.0 would be your best bet, or 5.3 if you wanna save some money. How about some twins? That would be sweet

Those body styles have TONS of room for twins. Its all on how much money you wanna throw at it. Or you could have someone custom build a set like im doing mine and come out pretty cheap.

Those older model trucks actually weigh a little more than the newer ones due to the metal being better. I would bet it would weight around 4000-4200 like it sits.

I'd do a all motor 6.0,start with a LQ4 or LQ9 block and build a nasty stroker.

You wanna keep the Fuel injection or swap over to a carb?

Inside the cab could use some loving, duel buckets and a center console with a floor shifter,If you could find a donor V8 99+ truck with a good interior,I would be looking for a SS or Denali or even a trailblazer SS would be perfect to get it all.

That's a good starting point,ya'll down in TN get a lot cleaner older trucks then us up here in Ohio, not as much salt or that fluid they put down.

I already have a carb but I plan on going fuel injection.I knew they weighed more they aren't made out of plastic & fiberglass but 4,000 lbs? I was thinking maybe 3,500 at most. Hmm interesting. I have specific person to do everything I want done to it. I have someone that will be doing interior, lighting, and putting me a few speakers with a hidden cd player.( I do not want to cut the dash @ all! I personally dont like it because it doesnt go with the the body structure & design of the inside. To me its like watching a black & white show where only one person in it has any color.....get what I am saying here? The motor isnt a big deal I have plenty of experience with replacing parts. My dad (who has a towing/repo mechanics shop)was a single father & my mother wasnt around. I grew up around his friends who are like family who also have their owns shops such as Junk Yards,Tools,Paint, & Nitrous....you name it I can get a damn good deal. I am also a 91B Mechanic for the military....but some of those vehicles are a little different than civilian vehicles.
