So what do you think?
Hey, I'm brand new to these boards. I've been posting on the LS1tech boards for a while though ( I have a 2000 WS6). I have an opportunity coming up that I think I like the idea of and I wanted to see what you guys think. I've been looking at some pictures of some of the guys in my club here at purdue doing some offroading and I think it might be fun to join them, but as of now I have nothing to do it in. Right now my dad owns a 2000 Silverado 1500 Z71 with the 5.3 in it and 87k miles on it. He is wanting to upgrade to a new duramax for towing our camper (right now our '06 suburban pulls it). He was going to trade in the truck to get the duramax, but I would like to buy the truck from him . I'm sure he'll give it to me a bit cheaper than I could get it from someone else, so that's good. It has been his since it came from the dealer too, so that is good too. It also has some sentimental value too . haha. It was the first car I started driving back when I first got my license... lol. I put quite a few miles on the truck driving on the highway back and forth between wisconsin and indiana (about 400 miles) MANY times just after we moved to indiana, so i know that the last few miles quite a few were highway miles.
Anyway, this is what I would have to do. I have a '93 Mazda Navajo and a '93 Camaro Z28 now that I would have to sell. The navajo needs a new tranny (or this one rebuilt, but I can find a used one cheaper than the rebuild cost), and then mechanically it will be basically perfect. The engine runs like new, the tranny is just starting to slip. Obviously it has some visual things that aren't so great since it is a '93 (with 185k miles O_O), but overall the truck is in great shape still. The camaro is the same way, only the tranny is very good now too, and it had 135k miles instead of 185k. I got it for pretty cheap when I got it and i fixed a few things on it so now it is basically perfect too. I still need a headliner for it. I drove the Navajo as my daily driver until I got the camaro and fixed it up and now I drive it. Both run and driver perfectly (except the tranny on the navajo obviously). So what I would have to do is finish doing a couple things to those cars when I can find the time (school and living away from home for it = a pain for working on your cars), and then sell both of them, and give some extra money to my dad for the silverado.
Edit: Forgot to say, the truck is a silver ECSB.
What do you think? Should I do it? I have to decide quickly because he really wants the duramax .
