Thats about how all my projects go, so I wouldn't blame you for doing it

Problem is I’m 6-8mo from getting the money for the top end of the new motor and I’ve spent the last 6mo putting new gears and lockers and driveshafts in so I could crawl this summer . Any issues doing a compression check with the intake manifold off?

I don't see any, you're supposed to do it WOT anyway. Doesn't get more WOT than that 😂

I wouldn't yank the engine until you had your new engine build in process. Limp that bitch as long as you can, my 5.3 was sucking coolant for AT MINIMUM 50k miles and I just kept giving her the **** and she kept taking it

We'll see. Limping along as a driver is one thing but when I'm pointed nose towards the sky and balancing on 2 wheels trying not to fall off a cliff, I don't want to worry about the engine dying and losing brakes, steering, and control.

Got the plugs pulled. They’ve got maybe a 1000 miles on them. #8 was the nastiest by far. The rest look fine. Gonna try and get a compression tester this week.

Pleasant surprise, #8 came back at 150psi of compression. Spot checked a few others (didn’t feel like pulling headers) and they are hitting around 150psi as well.

After thinking about it, I’m gonna slap it back together and run it until it blows or the new engine is done. Whichever comes first.

The lesson here is don’t be cheap and lazy and use a paper gasket instead of RTV or you’ll be pulling the transfer case out to fix it.
