You are far from the first and I'll still say nope haha.
Only way an LS swap is happening is if I can find a kit that is a complete plug and play. I'm talking from engine to fuel system to gauges to everything. I'm not about to go through a junk yard harness and unpin and clean up and match wiring and then piece together a fuel system and then figure out the gauges and engine mounts. **** all that. And by the time I find a kit that does all that it'll make the $1200 I've spent on this swap look like child's play.

Few more parts for the head swap showed up. PRW 1.6 guided roller rockers, intake manifold bolts, header bolts, and cylinder head bolts. Hopefully next week I can order the intake manifold, gasket kit, and headers.

really cool blazer! makes me think i should of never sold my 87 square body
as for LS swap its not all that bad my son and I swapped his 94 silverado to a lq4/4l80 he bought i harness to make things simple and it was, i was able to tie in his factory gauges, fuel system was easy and so many make swap parts now the prices came way down in cost, his total was around $5000 with $1,100 for rebuilt trans, $1100 engine rebuilt .030 new pistons other wise would have been around $3000, your square body would probably be even simpler
i built a 383 SBC for my 87 with all high end parts dart pro1 heads forged internals holley stealth ram injection had about 10k in it put down right at 300whp, my sons lq4 with just a 02 zo6 cam all stock other wise no bolt'ons put down 340whp 380wtq for half the cost drives way better then my 87 did and he gets better MPG,
reason im telling you this is it really is not worth building a SBC anymore unless you want to keep it numbers matching, like you i didnt want to go true the hassle of swapping my 87 but HP per dollar LSx swap is really the way to go, plus reliability, drivability and fuel economy i was a fool building that 383 looking back!

I don't care about numbers matching or all out power. I'm keeping it old school for the sake of being old school. Everyone is LS swapping and honestly to me it's sad to see so many classics with LS engines. Takes away from it in my opinion. I've got a modern day hot rod (392 charger with gears, headers, borla, and a tune) so I'm well aware of the benefits of modern tech. When I hop in the blazer or my dad's 77 bronco I want to feel the age of it. I don't want it to feel modern. That's not what I bought this for.
Me keeping it old school is going against the grain in the way LS swapping was before it became so popular.

It's a cool truck man! Absolutely no doubt about that.
It's just that we read your frustration about $1200 into a 250hp build and we are thinking like... a stand alone LS swap from a upull yard is $1200 lol. I see 5.3s on CL for 3-400 all day.
Thats all. We still like your truck! Just giving our opinions of hp/$

I take no offense to the opinions. My comments on the cost were more of a wtf than bitching. Everyone said a vortec swap was cheap and I'm $1200 into it haha. Of course I could have skipped the fancy roller rockers and long tubes and machine work and just bought gaskets and an intake manifold but what's the fun in that.

Started work on the half doors today. Got one cut before getting yelled at for being to loud. I need to trim the back part closest to the latch at a better angle than straight up and down.
I also made some quick release hinges.

Spent some time working on the half doors. Still got some spots to reweld and grind but not to shabby for an hour of work with some flux core wire and a 110 welder. I'm using 20ga for the filler plate. Sturdy enough for framing buildings with, should be good enough for a door.
