Isn't the 30 minutes while you vary engine rpm mostly for flat tappet cam break in?

To properly seat the rings, you need to apply and vary the load on the engine as Atomic mentioned.
Initial start, you need to rev it above 2000 rpm to avoid low speed/high friction which could wear the cam lobes. This is as recommended by cam manufacturers.

I like to run it up the street a couple times in first/second gear letting it slow down by engine braking. Run the truck up to 4000rpms at a moderate pace in first gear and let off the gas. That should load the engine enough for the rings to settle. Spirited driving is a good way to say it

Ran across a little issue before installing the blower, i noticed the valley cover was missing.. so i looked around in the shop... nothing.. i drove an hour to my storage room at my dad's farm.. nothing.. so i call the guy i sold my old 6.2 block to and i asked him do u have a valley cover on the block? he said no.. so i lost all hope and had to spend more money and another 3-4 days till it gets here but then! i asked that guy to take a pic.. cause i wanted to double check after he sent me a pic i started laughing cause he took a pic of the bottom side..
i told him to flip it over and take a pic again.. *drum rolls* tadaaaaaa found it! truck should be running on saturday, cause they close on friday.. im having a good day so far *knocks on wood*
