Speaking of fun and games I'm not sure what the front u joint is. I think the factory trans output yoke is a 1350. Is it dumb to put a 1410 on one end and leave the 1350 on the other? I remember seeing the mythbusters episode with the pole vaulting drive shaft but don't remember if it was confirmed or not. They make a 1410 output yoke maybe I should buy that.

I miss that show. Well looks like worst case scenario the front U joint snaps and drops the shaft directly into a 8-12in deep pot hole which will just toss the rear end around for a second and crush the shaft.

that'd be nice. this all just now reminded me of the day i had a u-joint fail... pulled onto I90 going downhill (so it wasn't no slouch getting to 75ish) & then POP! followed by a ridiculous rumbling/banging around as the RPMs surged.
daggum rear one come apart & pert-near dropped the entire driveshaft out onto the interstate at highway speed. good thing the front seal did a good job keeping it from pulling all the way off the output shaft. i pulled over, throwed it in the bed, dropped it in 4 high, limped to the next exit, & putted home.
slapped my shaft it in the back of the car (so to speak) & took it to the base hobby shop to press in a new one.

I rode back from the Sturgis drag strip in 4h when I killed the first 10bolt. Never pulled the drive shaft and every so often what was left of the pinion was catching the chunks in the diff and would pop and bang! Finally right before Rapid Chevy the pinion caught something and shot it clear out the back cover. Wish I had gotten pictures but it was like 2am after a test and tune night at that terrible 1/8th strip.
Then when the second one went a few months later I limped it in 4h all the way from the grasslands back to some tire shop whose name I have forgotten but they were right off the same exit as the big Harley dealer. Much better service than the dealer.
Gotta love front wheel drive trucks.
