PAG46 oil from your favorite site or store. I use the stuff with dye, for later

R134a should be R134a. I generally buy the 5lb cylinders at Sams Club, but the Buick just got refilled with AutoZone R134a when I rebuilt its system, and its cold, so theres that. You will need the new "epa valve" adapter, unless your manifold is equipped with it already. Was like $7 for me to get the valve

You are going to suck the system down right? I usually pull full vacuum on it. Wait a couple of hours and check again. Then I usually run the pump again to try to grab any leftover moisture. FL humidity... I will never forget that. Also purge all your lines before adding the reefer juice. I am actually glad they finally rolled out the new self healing can. Countless tin soldiers have been wasted in the past. No way to store those old cans once you punch them. I guess you can leave them hooked and hope they dont bleed down. The new cans don't leak at all! Love them. Saves you money and the environment I guess.

Oh yes absolutely going to vacuum it! Got everything pulled off this evening and inspected the lines. Swabbed the line exiting the condenser to make sure there wasn't any metal or sludge build up and the swabs cane back negative for COVID. Everything else looks pretty good as well. Compressor was a Denzo with 2 bolts missing not sure if it's the original compressor to the truck or not but it was made in the USA.

With leak detector in that oil I'd say someone has been in there before. It is very clean, however. I use a ram pump to push the solvent thru the evap core, and compressed air to push the rest thru. Most of that stuff is supposed to be vacuum friendly and boil off at relatively low pressure, so shouldn't be much of an issue. I flush everything I am reusing. I've never had legit success flushing a condenser tho, I can't get enough volume thru it and there are rows I know never got flushed. I just replace them at this point

bolts missing may have been from the engine swap, don't forget about the tooner that built her the first time

only other thing I can suggest is do not lube your new o-rings with the UV PAG oil 😂 that will **** you off later in life

Cap whatever is left in the truck to keep dirt and bugs out while you wait for parts

I'll flush the evap core tomorrow and blast it out with my compressor. Maybe after all this work the AC will be even colder than before just in time for summer. After this every accessory on the engine will have been replaced.

Rebuilt the AC system over the weekend only to find out it still wasn't working. Turns out a fan relay shorted out and the fans weren't coming on. Which explains why I saw the ECT climb when I thought the water pump was dying 2 weeks ago. Anyhow fans weren't coming on which caused condenser to get hot and pressures to spike crazy high. Whatever fixed all that and the AC was blowing nice and cold! Until today when I was driving to work and it was still cool out. ECT were around 175-180 and at a stop the AC was blowing warm again. Realized fans aren't programmed to come on till 195* and with the 160* T stat it was never triggering them to come on.

Jumped on HPT and changed Fan on to 140* but with a shutoff of 40mph. Figured having them come on even before coolant is up to temp shouldn't hurt anything and will help cool the condenser faster. Also dropped idle from 775 to 580 after trying a few different idle speeds 700-650-580. Gave it a tad more cam sound and I haven't noticed any negative effects yet.

Even upgraded to MPVI2 Pro so I can start learning a little more about being a tuna.

Tuning isn’t as hard as most people make it out to be. My best advice would just be spend time looking through all the different adjustments and familiarize yourself with hptuners. Its way different then like 95% of the tuning softwares I’ve used for the last ten years so it was a pretty steep learning curve for me but after tuning around 20 local cars and trucks I feel like I’m finally starting to get the hang of things and know where what is what and what things change what else. Also YouTube has been a great resource as well.

also if you wanna make the idle chop a little more under spark you can increase the idle under speed and over speed corrections.
